ABSTRACT

What is gene therapy? A gene (within each cell’s DNA) is an inheritable (able to be passed on from one generation to the next generation) material found in every cell. Genes are necessary for each cell to “know” how to grow and develop. In a way, genes may be thought of as “cellular recipes.” Since organs are made up of many cells, it is necessary for the cells to grow and develop normally for the organ to function in a healthy manner.
