ABSTRACT

The focus of this chapter is the spectrum of endovascular interventions available for thrombus removal in the clinical setting of acute DVT. In other words, we will discuss the interventional approach for treatment of acute thrombus in order to (1) re-establish deep venous flow to thereby reduce pain and edema; (2) preserve valve integrity; (3) remove thrombus that could embolize; and (4) prevent continued obstruction and valve damage that leads to post-thrombotic syndrome.
