ABSTRACT

Introduction Sundt et al. reported the first successful treatment of a basilar artery stenosis by percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) in 1980.1 Since then a large number of centers have reported excellent clinical, angiographic, and hemodynamic improvement after treatment of extracranial and intracranial lesions2-15; and since the early 1990s, PTA has been more frequently used to treat stenoses of the vertebral artery.
