ABSTRACT

All advanced laparoscopic surgeons should be able to perform laparoscopic suturing. This is a necessary skill for successful performance of a variety of laparoscopic procedures. An endoscopic loop, surgical staples, or clips cannot replace suturing. Sutures approximate tissue planes and establish hemostasis. Surgeons should acquire this important skill. Unexpected situations, including bleeding, uterine perforation, and bladder or intestinal tears, can be sutured laparoscopically, sparing the patient from a laparotomy.
