ABSTRACT

Hypothesis for the Genesis of SUI During pregnancy the endopelvic fascial attachments of the bladder neck and distal sphincter are weakened possibly due to hormonal influences (2) . This might be a progesterone effect resulting in reduced urethral closure pressure (3) and connective tissue changes (4) . Along with the increasing intraabdominal pressure from the pregnant uterus, this might increase the risk of SUI antenatally. In fact, incidences of up to 40% have been reported (1) with approximately 20% having severe symptoms (5) .
