ABSTRACT

Inclusion into the ICIQ is based on a principal factor: evidence of a questionnaire’s robust validation. Psychometric testing of questionnaires for use in clinical practice and research is considered essential to afford confidence in the results obtained (4) . This is of particular importance where decisions regarding treatment or research outcomes are made. There are three main components to standard psychometric evaluation:

Validity-indicates that the instrument is a valid • measure of the concept in question; Reliability-indicates that the instrument can mea-• sure the concept in a reproducible and consistent manner; Sensitivity to change-indicates that the instrument • is able to detect real change in the concept under evaluation ( 4-9 ).
