ABSTRACT

The reason for this is that as our population becomes more aged, the prevalence of urinary incontinence (UI) is likely to relentlessly increase, but our health care budget will probably not keep pace with the demand for continence services. Most countries in the developed world have “controlled” budgets for health. As we all know, the prevalence of lethal conditions such as cardiovascular disease and stroke is also rising with the aging population. Because incontinence is not generally lethal, we must be able to compete with clinicians in other fields of medicine for increasingly precious health care funds.
