Phase one involves filling and storage of urine in the bladder and is accomplished through:

accommodation of increasing volumes of urine at 1. low intravesical pressure, appropriate sensation of bladder fi lling without 2. allodynia, a bladder outlet that 3. is closed at rest remains closed despite increases in intra-abdominal pressure, and the absence of involuntary detrusor contractions 4. (IVCs) secondary to neurogenic or non-neurogenic detrusor overactivity (DO).
