ABSTRACT

The objective of this chapter is to provide relevant evidencebased clinical information to help practitioners to diagnose and treat specific biologic-based sexual health pathophysiologies. Even though health care clinicians need to be holistic in managing women with sexual dysfunction and be aware that both psychological and biological issues cause sexual health problems, the this chapter concentrates on the biological aspects of how to identify pathologies associated with the sexual health concerns, and how to provide evidence-based safe and effective management strategies. A clinical biologicalbased paradigm ( Fig. 60.1 A and B ) is presented founded on results derived from emerging basic science and evidencebased data derived from clinical research. In most cases women with sexual health concerns should consider undergoing concomitant psychological assessment and management by an appropriately trained specialist ( 97-100 ).
