ABSTRACT

Presumably because of mediocre clinical results, especially long-term, as well as the rise in popularity of alternative treatment options, interest in UIT has waned. Some have questioned the clinical utility of UIT at all in the era of minimally invasive surgical techniques for stress urinary incontinence (SUI) (e.g., midurethral slings) (3) . However, UIT still may have role in SUI treatment, because it is minimally invasive, well-tolerated, and beneficial, especially in the short term. Appropriate patient selection is, therefore, paramount and it cannot be used indiscriminately in all SUI patients. However, in the right patient, urethral injection bulking therapy can play an important role (4) .
