ABSTRACT

Surgical failure is frequently attributed to a deficiency of “native” tissue with which to perform an adequate repair. Recurrence rates as high as 45% and re-operation rates up to 30% have been reported ( 3-5 ). For these reasons, the use of grafts and mesh materials in POP surgery has become more common. The use of mesh in POP surgery aims to replace weak or defective supportive tissues or induce the growth of new tissue.
