ABSTRACT

Infertility is defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the inability to conceive after 1 year of intercourse without the use of birth control. Based on this criterion, approximately one in seven couples experience infertility. Male factor infertility has been shown to play a role in up to 50% of couples unable to conceive. Ongoing advances in the management of this disorder have led to improved treatment options. Ideally, evaluation and treatment of the infertile male will allow the development of an effective therapeutic plan, while minimizing overall cost. This chapter reviews the work-up for male factor infertility, and the evidence-based treatment options available.
