ABSTRACT
Introduction Surgery is the logical approach for structural problems. Medicines can replace enzymatic deficiencies, but drugs are by definition essentially palliative approaches. Gene therapy can, in theory, replace the missing substance, but at the same time give the individual the ability to make the substance itself. Gene therapies per se have been divided into two categories: classic gene therapy and stem-cell therapy.
