ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION The role of chemotherapy in head and neck squamous cell cancer (HNSCC) continues to evolve. This chapter focuses on chemotherapy for SCCs of the head and neck region, including tumors of the oral cavity, oropharynx, larynx, and hypopharynx. SCCs account for more than 90% of tumors arising in this region. Other epithelial malignancies including adenocarcinomas and neuroendocrine cancers as well as nonepithelial lesions such as sarcomas have distinct biological features and are beyond the scope of this discussion.
