ABSTRACT
To establish the aesthetic goals of the surgery both the surgeon and the patient rely on the idealized image of the face that in their minds represents beauty. Assuming that the patient holds the same standard of beauty as the surgeon could results in significant disappointment for both parties, as the desired facial aesthetics may vary widely between the cultures and the countries of origin. The neck rings of Kaya people or the lip plates of Surma women are striking examples of this difference.
