ABSTRACT

Orthotopic heart transplantation (OHT) is a valuable treatment option for selected patients with advanced heart failure refractory to surgical or medical management and poor short-term prognosis (1). Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is useful for monitoring patients undergoing heart transplantation. In this chapter, we will review the surgical technique and the role of TEE in the perioperative management of heart transplant patients.
