ABSTRACT

As long as humans have existed, the search for eternal youth has pressed forward. While the true fountain of youth eluded Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon, cosmetic scientists have continued their enduring quest for the antidote to aging. Aging has perplexed researchers for millennia. Decades of scientific study have been dedicated to defining the exact mechanisms of cellular deterioration, aging, and apoptosis. Preventing and reversing cellular aging has been an eternal crusade among researchers, the new explorers, and the basis for many prescription and over-the-counter product claims. Fundamentally, we now know that the key to healthy skin is found at the cellular level and that a youthful epidermis is dependent on an optimal cellular condition. In short, healthy cells function properly and replicate predictably, preserving a person’s health, and ultimately outward appearance, until natural aging can no longer be stalled.
