ABSTRACT

The first visible signs of aging begin to reveal themselves sometime between the late 30s and mid-40s. The nasolabial folds, the lines that run from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth and separate the cheek from the upper lip, begin to deepen during this time period. The cheeks slowly begin to sag in a process called jowling, as we lose volume from the malar cheek fat pads. Lateral orbital commissure lines-crow's feet-begin to form around the outside corners of the eyes. Dynamic rhytides, or wrinkles, begin to appear in the forehead and glabellar region of the face. These early changes represent some of the first signs of aging and are a common cosmetic reason for patients to present for rejuvenation.
