ABSTRACT

Dermoscopy enables the visualization of structures and colors beneath the surface of the skin, which are not routinely discernible to the unaided eye. In essence, dermoscopy is a new method of gross histopathologic examination of the skin performed by clinicians, since structures and colors observed by dermoscopy have specifi c correlates on histopathologic examination. To make accurate diagnosis using dermoscopy, clinicians must learn the defi nition and histopathologic correlation of dermoscopic structures and colors.
