Acute traumas to the nail apparatus are extremely common and represent a frequent cause of consultation at the emergency ward. Hand surgeons are not always available, and unfortunately it is common that the nail apparatus is poorly considered as long as the underlying bony structure is undamaged. This may result in severe nail dystrophies even without associated phalanx fracture.
