ABSTRACT

PREGNANCY-RELATED MANAGEMENT Principles Effect of Pregnancy on Disease The whole pituitary enlarges in pregnancy. The prolactinoma can enlarge. Prolactin levels are physiologically elevated, and cannot be used for management. Serum levels of prolactin in nonpregnant patients with prolactinomas are usually proportional to the tumor mass, but this relation is lost in pregnancy. Prolactin levels do not correlate well with symptoms in both nonpregnant and pregnant patients with prolactinomas (10).
