ABSTRACT

Insomnia is the most commonly reported sleep problem, not only in the United States, but also in industrialized nations worldwide. Approximately 35% of the adult population has insomnia during the course of a year1. Up to 17% indicate that the insomnia is chronic, severe, or both2,3. It currently affects more than 60 million Americans, and this figure is expected to grow to 100 million by the middle of the twenty-first century4.
