ABSTRACT
Arsenic, the 20th most abundant element in the earth’s crust, is present in trace levels in all soil, rock, water, and air. Arsenic compounds can exist in both inorganic and organic forms and are classifi ed according to their valence states: elemental 0, arsenite (trivalent, 3+), and arsenate (pentavalent, 5+).
