ABSTRACT

Colour management offers a means of controlling colour from a source medium when reproduced on some other medium. It consists of a set of tools and procedures for the unambiguous exchange of colour information between imaging devices, based on the preservation of colour appearance. The basis of the exchange is a mathematical model of the relationship between device data and visual colour stimulus, and this model is expressed as a colour profile for each device or medium. The goals of colour management may be summed up as interoperability, consistency, and pleasing colour reproduction. The architecture of colour management permits a choice for the user as to whether accuracy or pleasantness is to be emphasised in a given application.
