ABSTRACT

While scrambled eggs, cold chicken and water sound like relatively innocuous and typical foods consumed by many tourists every day around the world, they are potentially lethal unless enormous care is taken by food handlers to prevent contamination or deterioration of the foodstuffs. It happens that innocent sounding eggs, chicken and water #x2014; like many food products — are ideal hosts to some potentially nasty food-borne illnesses, which cause symptoms ranging from mild gastrointestinal discomfort to severe vomiting, diarrhea and pain; possibly requiring hospitalization and potentially leading to death in cases affecting high-risk groups, such as the young and the elderly.
