ABSTRACT

A major issue facing higher education (HE) is how to ensure quality and equity. How is the appropriate level of awards and equivalence of standards achieved to ensure that a degree awarded at any university is both worthy of the title and comparable to an award made elsewhere? This chapter examines quality assurance systems for HE. It focuses on the experience of the UK, but the issues of how to measure, safeguard and enhance quality apply to HE systems around the world.
