ABSTRACT

LENS DISTORTION Telephoto or long lens - A telephoto lens compresses, condenses and flattens three-dimensional space. Subject matter appears to be closer together. This effect is most noticeable when the lens has exceeded the focal length of 135mm. Very long lenses are expensive but extreme effects can be explored by attaching a teleconverter to a shorter focal length lens. A focal length of 400mm or greater may be achieved in this way without paying large sums of money. The problems encountered by using this technique are maximum apertures that may be no better than f8. A fast film or high ISO setting will be necessary in these situations.
