ABSTRACT

The Cambridge Dictionary defines the word essential as: ‘necessary; needed; a basic thing that you cannot live without’. We believe that a BPM project cannot ‘live’ without these three essentials.

An essential is an aspect of the project that is considered extremely important, in fact crucial, to ensuring the success of the project, but it does not occur as a sequential activity or at a certain time within a project. An essential occurs on a continual basis throughout the entire project, and this is why we have depicted essentials differently in Figure 23.1.
