ABSTRACT

Introduction: current trends in organizational forms In recent years, new forms of organization have begun to emerge from the synergies between technological developments and changing paradigms of corporate culture. The resulting uncertainties and imponderables have led to a need for newer organizational forms to be structured dynamically for responsiveness to change and to provide effective ways to achieve competitive advantage. The evolution from hierarchical to network and now to virtual organizational forms suggests increased demands for flexibility and coordination. Although no single organizational form can serve all purposes (Miles and Snow, 1992), the drive to globalize and the demand for high volumes of information exchange means organizations – both traditional or emerging – need to re-think their organizational strategies.
