ABSTRACT

The most hazardous area when operating microwave links is in front of the antenna. This is a particular problem with SNG flyaways and transportable Inmarsat satphones as they are often placed on the ground, or operated so that the beam is at a height through which people may pass. It is less of an issue with SNG and ENG trucks, where the antenna is mounted either on the roof or at least high up on the vehicle structure, and hence out of harms way.
