ABSTRACT

The main purpose of the project was to investigate apparent resistance to a pilot implementation of an electronic order requisitioning (ER) system initiated by the procurement department of a UK electricity generator. The project concerns a large mainframe-based financial accounting package which had been significantly customized. Analysis by procurement and IT departments showed that the package was not being used to its full potential for order requisitioning. The pilot study was initiated at the company HQ in order to assess the potential of ER (Pye, Bates and Heath, 1986) and it was felt by management that the ER pilot ‘has not proved as successful as had been hoped’.
