ABSTRACT

Recently I took a business trip to California from the east coast. That morning I turned on my ThinkPad® notebook, which automatically connected to my home Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) via IBM Access Connections, a pre-loaded connectivity software utility. My Virtual Private Network (VPN) client application popped up and with one click I securely accessed my Lotus® Notes® email on the IBM Intranet as if I were sitting in my office. I checked email for urgent messages and my calendar for any new meetings. I printed the day’s calendar on my home printer, which defaulted automati- cally, and prepared for work. I logged off email, exited the VPN application, closed the lid on my notebook, placing it into suspend mode, and left for work.
