Levi Strauss & Co, founded in 1850 in San Francisco, CA, is the biggest producer of branded apparel; its brands are Levi's, Dockers, Brittania, and Slaters. The firm has sold about 2.5 billion pairs of jeans. Levi Strauss employs 38,000 people; the turnover is $6.7 billion with a profit of $735 million (1995).
