ABSTRACT

This article describes a simple rigging system that allows both vertical and horizontal movement of scenery in two simultaneous operations. The system is useful in situations where it is necessary to fly units diagonally through space, and can also be employed to keep the backstage floor area clear of rigid set pieces that are too tall to be flown vertically out of sight. In addition, a uista scene shifts that take advantage of the system’s potential for diagonal movement can help create very successful “cinematic” visual effects. Figure 1 illustrates this last possibility and describes the rig in general. View of the System From Upstage https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9780080518565/add4c751-335b-4ee5-91d4-f532049b17e5/content/ch56_page102-01_B.tif" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"/>
