ABSTRACT
The Caribbean is one of the most tourism-dependent economies in the world. It is estimated that tourism generates 560 000 jobs (directly and indirectly). Visitor expenditure contributed an estimated US$17.5 billion in revenues in 1998. The tourism sector represents about one-third of all regional exports. For islands such as Antigua and Barbuda and the Bahamas, tourism contributes most of the GDP.
