ABSTRACT

Case Summary The impact of technology in sport, while always having had an effect, has in the past 20 years become even more pronounced. The emergence of computer data analysis, increased memory capacity associated with database management systems, developments in broadcasting, graphical representation and re-creation of sport, all coupled with the enhancement and immediacy of information transfer has resulted in a change to the way sport is now packaged and presented to the spectator. While sport has continued to package itself in ways to encourage increased game attendance, it has also sought ways to enhance its offering to the viewing spectator. This case views sport through the elements of enhanced viewing experiences that are being presented to the sport watcher, particularly through the implementation of streaming video on the Internet.
