Efficient use of the Multicam tools begins at preproduction. Plan on setting camcorders to as close a timecode point as possible or, if using camcorders that offer timecode matching such as the Sony HVR V1U, sync up the timecode from a master camera. Previewing multicamera screens in realtime is nice, but what really counts is being able to select cameras in real time. Vegas Pro 8 offers a couple of methods for performing active camera selections. Many times users prefer putting cross-fades between cuts. Vegas Pro 8 provides options for creating cross-fades between cuts. In addition to the Vegas Multicamera tools, there are third-party tools for editing multicam in Sony Vegas Pro 8 (and earlier versions of Vegas). Some of them are paid tools, and others are free. There are other third-party tools available for multicam functionality in the Vegas application.
