ABSTRACT

Vegas was one of the early multitrack editors available for the PC before the advent of Vegas Video 2.0. Having set the standard for audio on the PC with Sound Forge several years previously, a multitrack tool was a logical step, and like Forge, it became a standard for the Windows environment. Vegas can be used for a basic voice-over-only setup or as the heart of a full-blown multitrack studio setup for recording live bands, film scoring, television production work, or other professional audio requisite. The ability to monitor tracks while recording is critical. Vegas provides this ability with most low-end soundcards and with nearly any multichannel card. Recording and monitoring tracks is fairly fast and self-evident. The audio mixer in Vegas Pro 8 is an emulation of an analog mixer in a recording studio. Although it is a new feature, it predominantly provides a mix interface that is long overdue.
