ABSTRACT

Many countries have specific licensing requirements for therapists which forces new employees to seek courses that provide accredited spa, beauty, massage or other health practitioner education. Graduates from these courses can then find employment as a junior or assistant spa therapist. Such courses can range from 60 hours in Thailand, to 700 hours in the state of Hawaii ( AMTA 2008 ), to 2240 hours in British Columbia. In

countries without any licensing requirement, therapists would often start to work in a spa after undergoing a 1-3 months incompany training program.
