ABSTRACT

The Rule of Law operates through the existence of many individual rules. In highly developed communities these rules have grown into a complex body of laws. Such laws are the subject of this book.

Architects and the law 1 .02 It is an essential feature of the concept of the Rule of Law that its application should be universal: everybody must be subject to the law. It follows that the law must apply to an individual whether or not he is aware of the law. Hence the well-worn maxim that ‘ ignorance of the law is no excuse ’ .
