ABSTRACT

The Mamiraua Sustainable Development Reserve is located in the state of Amazonas in Brazil and today is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site – Central Amazonian Complex. Ecotourism was introduced here in 1999 after a business plan showed it was feasible to build and operate a small floating ecolodge. Since then economic, environmental and social results and impacts have been measured by the Instituto de Desenvolvimento Sustentável Mamiraua.
