ABSTRACT

Under the rubric of “the social sciences” falls an enormous and diverse body of topics, methods, and results. From this diverse body of work I have I chosen four topics with implications for the social sciences and philosophy of science in general: the role of idealized models, the place of individual behavior in social explanation, the status of teleological and evolutionary explanations, and the role of values.
