ABSTRACT

The collection of essays in this volume has hopefully served to highlight a number of issues which are of interest to students of political science from different branches of the discipline, but most of all to those who study the politics of ethnicity. Both the diverse nature of the chapters together with the corresponding diversity of the conclusions drawn illustrate the variety inherent within the field itself. That no collective overall conclusion has been drawn should come as no surprise. This to one side, there are a number of common threads which have been highlighted throughout the narrative, and this concluding piece represents an attempt to focus upon the more pertinent of such threads.
