ABSTRACT

The ability to obtain full and accurate information is critical in an investigation – it may determine whether or not a case is solved, yet the eyewitness literature reveals that such recall is difficult to achieve because of the cognitive and social factors that can influence recall accuracy (for reviews, see Bruck & Ceci, 1999; Memon, Vrij & Bull, 2003). The CI arose out of a need to examine ways of improving witness memory (cognitive factors) as well as addressing some of the social factors that can affect the quality of the report obtained from a witness.
