ABSTRACT

Schön distinguished between two fundamental processes: reflection in action and reflection on action:

1 Reflection in action (while doing something) is understood through such phrases as thinking on your feet and keeping your wits about you which suggest that ‘not only can we think about doing but that we can think about doing something whilst doing it. Some of the most interesting examples of this process occur in the midst of performance’ (Schön, 1983: 54).
