ABSTRACT

In Chapter 5 we considered influences that shape the overall physical education curriculum of a school and hence pupils’ total learning experiences. We also considered the mechanics of long-term planning in the National Curriculum for Physical Education (NCPE). In this chapter we turn our attention to the next two levels of planning – medium and short-term – or unit of work and lesson planning. As a student teacher you have little influence on the longterm planning of the physical education curriculum. However, you are required to be able to plan sequences of lessons and individual lessons in the form of units of work and lesson plans.
