ABSTRACT
Although the term culture is defined differently by different writers, I shall in this essay take it to refer to a way of understanding and organising human life. It involves a body of interrelated ideas concerning man's place in the world, the meaning and significance of human activities and relations and the nature of the good life, and a set of social practices based on them. A group of people sharing a common culture constitutes a cultural community. Most societies today are multicultural in the sense that they consist of several cultural communities.
