ABSTRACT
The ethical and policy implications of developments in biomedical science are increasingly dominating not only public debate but also scientific meetings and international fora. There is increasing recognition of the necessity for developing a moral framework that can keep pace with and control rapid change. In many different areas of biomedical science, technological advance has posed new dilemmas and necessitated the reassessment of our moral categories.
