ABSTRACT
In the fourth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders of the American Psychiatric Association, Binge Eating Disorder is proposed as a new diagnostic category requiring further study and as an example of EDNOS (APA 1994) (see Appendix for diagnostic criteria). The criteria are described in an appendix, indicating that BED requires further research before it can be incorporated as a fully accepted category in the DSM. No comparable diagnostic category exists in ICD-10 (WHO 1992).
