ABSTRACT
First, we need to think about the notion of representation, since the cinema, like all media forms, does not re-present ‘reality’ despite the connotations of the term ‘representation’. Implicit in this consideration of cinema and childhood is a sense that the cinema is not concerned with a straightforward presentation of the world and of the relations between people within it.
